Robert Downey Jr.’s Gym Style is Everything Your Dad’s Isn’t
Robert Downey Jr. clearly enjoys getting dressed. Whether he's hitting the red carpet for yet another Marvel Universe movie or just getting paparazzi-ed, you can never say the actor's wardrobe is boring. Like the style originals we tip our hats to most (see: Russell Westbrook, Jared Leto) RDJ has a sense of style all his own. And here's the latest proof: en route to the gym with his wife, Susan Downey, the Iron Man actor didn’t roll out in head-to-toe black like most of today’s best-dressed millennials, and he didn’t do some sort of sad gray-sweats-and-old-t-shirt thing like dad might do. Instead, he went for well-fitting workout staples in bright, neon colors topped off a few showoff accessories; big square sunglasses, bright white basketball sneakers, and a Ports 1961 gym bag. It was a look you might see on a Los Angeles yoga teacher or someone who is literally going to the gym for the first time ever. That is, kooky, fun, entirely free of dread at the prospect of working out.
If your gym routine is starting to feel a little stale, maybe it’s not the activity or playlist that needs shaking up, but your wardrobe. Just looking at Robert Downey Jr.'s energy shot of an outfit makes us want to work out. Maybe you don’t cop the whole thing IRL per se, but even in a nod in this direction (the bright T-shirt, perhaps?) would probably rev your engines a bit. If nothing else, it'll turn a few heads.
