Fitness trends are always changing. One month it seems like everyone is talking about SoulCycle, and the next it's barre classes, and the next it's some weird hip-hop dance-workout thing. In fact, it's getting to the point where you could make up ridiculous fake fitness classes and it would be hard to tell them apart from the real thing. Which brings us to the wonder that is POUND (all caps). When I first saw a YouTube video explaining what a POUND class was, I was convinced it was a parody of "hip" workout classes. I mean, just watch this video.

Nothing has ever looked more like a parody of something than that video, but it turns out POUND (seriously, the all-caps thing is so ridiculous) is totally real. The idea behind the class is that through drumming on the ground, you can get a cardio workout. How? Well, if the video and pictures are to be our guide, it seems like you do normal core exercises and just drum at the same time. And that may seem dumb, but in today's trendy-fitness-class arms race, that's all it takes. All these people need are their Ripstix® with their Pound Posse. (Both of which are actual things on their website.)

Everything about this seems designed to make the people who do it embarrassed in 25 years, when they suddenly remember all the money they spent on those drumming workout classes. I mean, is that above video any less embarrassing than this classic?

But maybe I'm wrong. According to one of the testimonials on the POUND website, POUND can change more than your body.
