Dry Shampoo Is the Latest Reason Why You’re Losing Your Hair
Whether you live with a woman who swears by dry shampoo or you discovered its awesome ability to degrease and thicken even the limpest of high fades all on your own, you should know that it might be hurting your hair more than it’s helping.
Olga Khazan, a writer for The Atlantic, surveyed eleven dermatologists and hair experts on whether the miracle spray could be the cause of her suddenly thinning hair, and they advised her to cool it on the white stuff. The consensus, according to Khazan, was that dry shampoo “soaks up excess oil, and in the process, irritates your scalp.” Not only can that type of irritation cause hair loss, but the clumping that happens when you use dry shampoo and other hair sprays can cause hair to fall out in bigger chunks.
While the experts did not totally agree on the number of times per week one should dry shampoo versus real shampoo (three days seems to be the max for either), the overall point is that any hair product that gives you Italian-playboy-level perfection—and smells strongly enough that you wouldn't use it in the presence of pets and small children—is probably not the best to rely on every day, day after day.
In conclusion, shampoo your damn hair once in a while.
