Wiz Khalifa's Gym Style Is a Win for Skinny Guys

Wiz Khalifa rarely walks a red carpet with his whole chest covered—unless, of course, you count the torso's worth of ink he's permanently wearing. The lanky rapper's signature style is usually this: a bold button-up shirt, buttoned all the way down—and sometimes while performing, no shirt at all. But not, apparently, when he's at the gym. This summer, Khalifa's been putting in time at a gym in Los Angeles, CA wearing a combination of workout clothes that showcase his most muscular parts while adding a bit of bulk to his leaner bits. It's a gym fit that guys blessed with a tall and skinny frame, like Khalifa's, should take notes on.

Gym style seems obvious—wear some shorts, and a shirt—but it's important in two interconnected ways. First: it should make you feel cool and comfortable and powerful, and no one feels cool and powerful in ratty frat shorts. (Comfortable? Sure.) Second: it should highlight your best features. When you're on the skinny side bench-pressing next to a guy who looks like the Rock, any amount of added confidence goes a long way. From the cut of Khalifa's tank tops (long and boxy, as much muscle tee as tank) to the fit and material of his shorts (cut above the knee in a stiff fabric) to his patterned compression tights (which add visual mass), the dude looks swoler than ever before—which we're sure will help him on his continued journey to swole-ness.

You may just be getting started on you summer body (or, uh, your fall body). But whether it's day one at the gym or day 365, you deserve to go in looking your best. All you have to do is apply the following three lessons:

1. Invest in Muscle ShirtsThat means anything that draws the eye to your shoulders and chest, while drawing it away from your mid-section.

2. Add PatternsThis visual trick helps your skinniest parts look fuller. But be forewarned: the bigger and bolder the pattern the rounder you'll appear.

3. Go for Boxy FitsT-shirts that are cut square will help add mass to your upper half. But if you buy one in a size or two too big the opposite will start to happen and you'll look like a little kid in his dad's tee.
