What to Do If You Didn't Get to the Barber This Weekend

First things first, ease up on that trigger finger. You may reach for your clippers hoping for a quick correction to a stray curl or two, but Mills cautions against it. "It’s not a good idea to be cutting hair on your own," she says. A snip here could lead to a buzz there, and then you’re far worse off than you were before. Instead of shearing yourself, Mills suggests that you tame your strays with product: "My advice would be—for the majority of hair—that hair cream is best." As for which, she prefers Bumble and Bumble’s grooming creme. "A softer cream is better than a wax to basically just slick the hair into place." She suggests adding it to "half-wet, half-dry" hair, starting from the trouble areas (your fro’ing sides and creeping neck) and then combing it into place. "Don’t touch it till it’s dry, then pull it with your fingers." There you have it: a little bit of patience and grooming cream, your new secret weapon in a bottle.
But, if you’re really desperate to clean up, Mills says it’s fine to have a trusted love one take a (not literal) stab at removing patchiness below your hairline with a clipper or a wet razor. But she stresses to stick below the natural hairline. You don’t want to mess up your barber’s work. And trust us, they’ll notice the slightest change. Next time, just book the appointment.
