You know who really, really liked beards? Herman Melville. In his 1850 novel White Jacket, the man dreamed up over 25 different ways to talk about the damn things in just three chapters. Some of the highlights:
suburbs of the chin
homeward-bounders
a continual iron-gray storm
whiskerandoes
admiral’s pennant
muzzle-lashings
long, trailing moss hanging from the bough of some aged oak...
...and a bunch of others which you can check out over at The Towering Irrelevance.
