David Beckham has more lean muscles, tattoos, and money than most of us, which admittedly makes getting dressed for the gym a bit easier for him. He doesn’t have to wear the same pair of compression tights three days a week, and he will basically look cool in any T-shirt. For example, at his last SoulCycle class, he wore an Adidas women’s tank top that said “NVH STP” in neon letters and still looked like a legend. This would be a bold move for most men, but it was nothing to Beckham.
There is one thing here that you don’t need Becks’s swoleness, ink, or cash flow to pull off, however, and that’s the basic idea of not wearing head-to-toe black and gray every time you break a sweat. Whether it’s a pair of white compression tights, flashy colored sneakers, or, yes, a T-shirt with some colorful lettering, there are plenty of ways to up the palette of your workout wardrobe so that you don’t look like the saddest guy in the free-weights section. Pick one colorful item if you’re feeling timid. Go whole hog if you consider yourself Beckham-level fearless. Life’s just too damn short to look like a sack of potatoes—even on a treadmill.
