Man Bangs Are Probably Going to Be a Thing in 2017
The last time haircuts with bangs were cool, The Rock was a movie, not a superstar, Prodigy's "Firestarter" was on repeat, and Seinfeld's original run was still going strong. More recently, though, the male forehead has enjoyed a glorious few years in the spotlight thanks to the rise of pompadours, buzz cuts, and all manner of slicked-back fade haircuts. But if the hairstyles of today’s well-groomed rebels are any indication, the curtain is about to come down—literally. Justin Bieber, Jared Leto, and now rapper Post Malone are all sporting bangs of some variety. They look disheveled, very un–Don Draper. At best, they call to mind E.R.-era George Clooney's in the mid-’90s, rocking an often-copied Caesar cut. At the worst, it can look a little sleazy.

It’d be easy to pass the haircuts with bangs off as coincidence or one of those trends that’ll never hit the mainstream, but when you think about how overexposed swept-back hair has become and look at the fact that various hairstylists we’ve interviewed recently have also predicted a return to bangs for men, it’s difficult to write off. Chances are this is just the tip of the fringe-tastic iceberg, and we’ll be seeing more forehead-obscuring cuts in the months to come. Probably on guys who are more mainstream. Cameron Dallas, we’re looking at you.
