How to Get Tom Ford’s Wavy Playboy Fashion Show Hair
Tom Ford has always had a thing for the ‘70s, and this season was no exception. In the designer’s Fall 2016 show on Wednesday, male models wore aviators and turtlenecks, tobacco leather jackets, and velvet tuxedo jackets in trippy prints. The hair followed suit. Instead of painstakingly groomed fades, or slicked-back Gordon Gekko hair, models’ wavy-to-curly natural texture was on full display. The effect was full-on ‘70s playboy vibes. Think: The hair from American Hustle, but actually good.
While you’d have to shell out upwards of $5,000 to get your hands on one of Ford’s retro leather jackets, you can do the playboy-hair thing for free. All you need is some grooming crème, hair gel, and a hair dryer. Celebrity groomer Losi (first name only, like Cher) was the woman behind the coifs on Ford’s runway this week. She used Martial Vivot’s luxe-y, very Tom Ford-friendly products to help achieve the look.

“For natural looking waves, apply a mixture of styling crème and gel to damp hair and then quickly blow dry with your hands. No brush should be used as it will cause a lot more frizz”, she told us. Losi advises to only apply the product to the roots of hair if you’re lacking in volume. Otherwise, just apply to strands, leaving the roots bare.
She also notes that the ratio of gel-to-crème, and the amount of product you use in general, should be specific to your hair. “If you have coarse hair, you need more gel to tame curls. If you have fine hair, you need a little more crème to bring out the waves”, she explained.
When you’re blow-drying your hair, start with hot air and then switch to cold as your hair dries. This will help decrease frizz and set the curl, Losi added. And remember: Don’t so much as look at a hairbrush. Unlike today’s ultra-groomed fades and buzz-cuts, Tom Ford playboy hair should be virtually effortless.
