The Premiere of 'A Quiet Place' Was a Parade of Excellent Beards

Movie premiere style is often dictated by the tone and subject matter of the film itself. Classy heist films call for pinstripe suits. Superhero movies open the door to boldly-colored tailoring. And A Quiet Place, John Krasinski’s new horror movie about unseen terrors that literally prey on sound, called for beards—lots of 'em. Attendees nodded to the post-apocalyptic narrative with dark clothing, but mostly with grooming looks that said "I sleep in an underground bunker." Okay, fine: Krasinski, and his famous friends Stanley Tucci, Justin Theroux, and Ryan Reynolds probably didn't grow out their beards specifically for the premiere, but their style was remarkably on theme. The world Krasinski created for his film is downright terrifying, but these guys make end-of-days style look...pretty great?

Looking at these four men, you can learn a few things about wearing a full beard and wearing it well. First off: having a beard is a great way to make basic clothes look more interesting and expensive. If you're a man with a stack of skinny black jeans and zero pink peak-lapel suits to speak of, a beard might be exactly the extra thing your style needs. Second, having a well-groomed beard isn't about carving out razor-sharp edges or making sure every hair on your face is perfectly even. Some beard oil and a brush will go a long way; in all matters of grooming, hydration is secret to success. Finally—and this is a big one—don't dye your beard. Three out of four of these guys have visible gray hair, and they all look great. If Zayn Malik taught us anything with his bleached facial hair, it's that dyeing your beard could very well turn you into the creepy cyborg version of yourself. Unless you're headed to a sci-fi movie premiere, that might not be the most sensible style move.
