Camilo’s Mustache Has a Mind of Its Own
Columbian musician Camilo talks about his mustache like it’s a slightly erratic friend. “He’s independent,” he says of the handlebar, which he initially grew out as a joke. “There’s days he’s super easy and there’s days he’s impossible. But he’s part of me.”
Like an important friendship, Camilo’s invested time and energy in the ‘stache: it took him three whole years to find the right wax for it, and it takes upwards of seventy strokes to coax it into the exact right shape. But he channels this much care into a lot of his grooming routine, whether that’s his philosophically-inspired mani-pedi or his seasonal cologne picks.

Below, Camilo breaks down his grooming routine and offers some valuable advice for finding meaning in how you get ready.
First, a thorough blow-dry.
Camilo likes to get his hair as close as possible to how he wants it to look with a hairdryer, before adding paste—otherwise “it’s in my face all day.”
Lock in the volume.
Camilo uses a fingertip-sized dab of this no-shine, coconut-scented paste and thoroughly musses it into his locks.

Polish the ‘stache.
It took Camilo three years to find the perfect wax for his most distinctive feature. To apply, rub it between your fingertips until it’s warm and gooey, and then run pinched fingers over the mustache hair until it’s the shape you’re going for—for Camilo, it takes “about 70 times.”

Consider the nails.
The dots on Camilo’s fingernails and toenails represent little specks of dust, reminding him of a conversation he and wife had about how “God created us from dust, to something that’s sacred and holy and beautiful.” He touches it up every morning.
Moisturize out of the box.
Camilo uses lavender cream on his face and then applies a little extra to all his tattoos—a step that’ll help keep your ink in tip-top shape. This all-natural option absorbs quickly and “isn’t sticky at all.”

Find your seasonal scent
“I wanna say good morning to my wife and smell awesome,” Camilo says, so he applies a little Le Labo pre wakeup call. His entire family swaps scents each season, because “all the memories we have are attached to smell.”

Connect with your spiritual side.
After his time in front of the mirror, Camilo brews some coffee, practices a little yoga, prays, meditates, and journals, which all helps him release tension and focus on what he’s grateful for. “It’s the most important part of my morning, my day, and my entire life.”
