Jose Bautista's hair follicles are as strong as his home run average. He's got barbers on call all over the country to keep his supremely handsome beard and hair looking supremely handsome. Not only that, but he is a self proclaimed fashion enthusiast and genuinely nice guy. The five time all-star left-fielder let us in on his on and off the field style and grooming tips.

You have a game tonight. What kind of grooming do you do to prepare?

About once a week I get my beard trimmed by a barber who comes to the stadium and he takes care of our haircuts and our beards. I try to do that once a week and stay on top of it that way. Sometimes it's hard to get the barber in, so I do it myself. I can get it close to how the barber does, but not exactly.

Do all Major League teams have a barber?

Yeah, most guys bring in their own barbers in different cities. And MLB allows them to come into the stadium and take care of us. Our schedule can get pretty rough, so it's more convenient that way. We don't have to take time out of our day to go to a barber shop.

Have you known your barber for a long time?

In some cities yes. The one barber that I've known for a while is out of New York, so if we're somewhere in the N.Y., Washington, Baltimore, Philly, Boston, or the Canada area he'll come in. In different cities we have different guys. Some cities are more difficult but we try to manage.

How do you avoid hat or helmet hair?

The big thing that I learned early on is that if you are going to work and going to wear a hat for an extended period of time. You don't want put a lot of product in your hair before that. Because getting rid of that hat hair afterwards is gonna be pretty tough. I try not to put any product in my hair before I go to the stadium. That way when I'm done and after a shower I can style it any way that I want.

How long have you had a beard?

I haven't shaved clean since 2011. For me to get a really clean shave I have to shave against the grain. which ultimately leaves me with some ingrown hairs and razor burn. That's why I use a barber and I let my beard grow as much as possible. It started that way, and then it kinda became my signature and I like the way it looks.

Do your daughters like your beard?

They only know me with the beard. I've thought about one day in the off season shaving it off and seeing how they would react, but I didn't have enough guts to do it. One day I will surprise them.

How would you describe your personal style off the field?

Depends on the activity. If I'm lounging, then I'll wear a T-shirt and sweatpants. I go for comfort when I'm lounging. When I have to dress up, I actually enjoy a lot of, you know, suiting up and doing the whole suit and tie look. I pay attention to fashion and what's happening, try to be up to date. I like accessorizing with my watches and some jewelry from time to time. Not overdoing it, but I always try to make sure that I compliment my outfit with a hat or scarf and that whatever accessory I am wearing remains manly.

Do you have any rules about men wearing jewelry?

I don't like earrings on myself but I think they look fine on some guys. Same thing with chains. I like simple metal chains with a nice pendant, as opposed to some other guys I've seen use a lot of diamonds on their jewelry. Same thing with watches, I don't like dressing them up with a ton of diamonds. I like the look of the watch as it comes from the factory. But that being said, just because I don't like wearing something myself doesn't mean I don't think it looks good on other people. For myself, I like to keep it simple.
