Frank Ocean’s Pink Hair Is Already Summer’s Defining Style Moment
It's easy to want to set the bar pretty low when it comes to summer style. It’s hot, for one. And for another, everyone deserves a break from thinking so hard about clothes. Maybe that’s why the style moments that do happen are ones we remember vividly. Harry Styles’s short haircut! Tom Hiddleston’s Taylor tank top! Kanye West’s glow-in-the-dark sneakers!
Frank Ocean’s pink hair feels like one of those things that may very well encapsulate the summer of 2017. True, summer has only just begun, but Frank Ocean is a style icon who tends to hide more than he stunts, and “millennial” pink has been everywhere forever and this feels like the peak of that trend. (Please let it be the peak of that trend.)
Ocean debuted the hair color while hanging out with fellow Cool Teens™ Kendall Jenner and Luka Sabbat in New York City this weekend. Jenner was wearing a Chanel fanny pack and Morpheus sunglasses. Sabbat tucked his track pants into his boots and had on shoulder pads of the Balenciaga variety. Dedicated fashion people that they are, everyone wore an expression of dead seriousness while the paparazzi was taking their photos. And they looked great, too. Seriously, no wonder these people get paid to front ad campaigns.
Does Ocean’s hair look good? Yes, very much so. For one, he’s above-average handsome and still in his twenties. For another, there’s something about the sickly sweet color that plays well against his otherwise conventional, Los Angeles–guy clothes. If Ocean’s choice of Vans and a slim navy suit at the White House state dinner in October taught us anything, it’s that the guy knows how to swerve just enough. The color also happens to be perfect—not at all orangey and faded out just a touch.
But should you do this with your hair, too? Nah. It’s summer. Take a few months off.
