Zayn Malik Has Invented Yet Another Haircut

Zayn Malik’s willingness to change up his hair is downright impressive. First it’s short, then it’s long, then it’s both at the same damn time. While most men are reluctant to update their style every five years, the 24-year-old steps out with a new look seemingly every week. For example, a mere two days ago, while having dinner with Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger in Paris, Malik's hair was long on top and short around the sides — a nothing-to-see-here kind of low fade. But today, while sitting front row at the Balmain womenswear show, it's this: a textured asymmetrical fade with some moody bangs pointing dangerously close to his one of his eyeballs. It's a little Flock of Seagulls, a little '90s Brian Austin Green. It's unclear whether Zayn actually visited his barber or whether his hairstylist just got really creative with the blow-dryer and some product, but whatever the case, it's probably not a look you—or any of the dudes in your office—are currently sporting.

We’ve seen haircuts moving in this direction for a few months now; Justin Bieber, Jared Leto, and Post Malone are just a few of the guys who are rocking bangs these days. While Zayn's hairstyle here is sort of its own thing altogether, it does connect back to the idea that mid-length cuts that involve eyebrow-grazing hair in some capacity are on their way back. The slicked back or combed over fade has enjoyed a good long moment in the spotlight; it's sort of about time things loosened up.

That's not to say we think you should run out and get this cut, or even walk out and get this cut. This look belongs at the Balmain show on a 24-year-old boy-band star turned solo artist. But you wouldn't be totally off base to consider growing your hair to some length between military short and man-bun territory. Zayn probably won't tip the scales on the trend but soon enough, someone will.
