A career in bartending can be demanding. It’s a late night lifestyle, and a commitment to an intensive fitness program is not an easy one to make. But that’s just what bartenders across the country have done this year: the Bartender Boxing Organization is a charitable non-profit exhibitionist sporting organization that aims to promote healthy lifestyles for bartenders. Sponsored exclusively by Tequila Cazadores®, the BBO asks bartenders to commit to 90 days of professional boxing tutelage that lead up to a sanctioned amateur fight and, if they win, a chance to represent their hometown in a city-against-city fight.

Kimberly Rosselle of San Francisco is one such bartender, and, as you’ll see below, her training schedule is intense (and rewarding!). She also shares a light and refreshing Cazadores cocktail—everyone needs a treat occasionally, including boxer bartenders.

Walk us through a typical day. What does your training look like?A general day of training would consist of a 30 minute warm-up of light stretching, foam rolling, and jump rope. The goal is to loosen up my muscles and start to get my blood flowing. This is followed with a roughly two hour work out split into an hour of HIIT(high intensity interval training) circuit training and an hour of boxing, including heavy bag work, pad work, or various drills with combinations.

What advice would you have for anyone who might be embarking on a similar journey?I would highly encourage anyone considering participating in this program, or one similar, to absolutely do it! I believe the practice of forcing yourself to learn a new skill set is invaluable. Life can be quite a bit overwhelming at times. Facing large challenges—like training for a boxing match in three months—and breaking it down into smaller daily obstacles can be extremely beneficial.
