The Best (and Worst) Grooming Moments from Last Night's Oscars

It was a sea of mama’s boys last night (Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jonah Hill all brought their mothers) but you’ve got to love the alright matching tans on the Texan duo. At least someone’s getting some sun.

With a close crop and clean shave, the ’12 Years a Slave’ star looks a solid ten years younger, and about ten pounds thinner.

The only word to describe Leto’s cascading, faded ombre hair might be ’majestic.’ His hair stylist, Chase Kusero, says the Oscar winner decided to skip his signature bun for air-dried waves last minute, and we agree the choice was a perfect compliment to his standout Saint Laurent dinner jacket. Kusero applied Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Primer Spray and Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Pomade to Leto’s hair the evening before the Oscars, then touched up the style day of with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ColorFinity Dry Shampoo.

It was refreshing to see a few guys (Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper) break from the old Hollywood hair mold and play with a little height and texture. Efron’s Stylist, Kim Verbeck, gave the presenter a textured cut on top, then applied a dime-sized amount of one ’n only’s Speed Style Styling Cream to his wet locks. She blew out his hair for volume and finished by applying one ’n only Speed Style Dry Texturizing Spray and one ’n only’s Speed Style Finishing Hair Spray to set the look.

If you’re going wear a beard to a formal event, it needs to be impeccably groomed and paired up with a classic hairstyle. Bravo to Jason Sudeikis for finding the sweet spot. (Extra points for the great volume he has going on up top.)

It’s true that the 33-year-old really hasn’t aged in a decade, but we’re most impressed by Levitt’s consistently perfect complexion and lack of forehead shine. The red carpet can be a sweaty, uncomfortable place, but you’d never know it from his mug.

Ninety-nine percent of the time, you’re going to look like a tool and slightly wolfish with a goatee. But DiCaprio’s shadow of a patch paired with slicked-back hair has become a winning red carpet formula for the leading man, and we can’t disagree.
