When I see pictures of me as a junior in college, I think, What was I thinking? I haven’t got the right face for sideburns. On the other hand, plenty of guys can sport them sportily. They can help fill out a thin face. ’Burns work for Rufus Wainwright and for Jason Lee. Vince Vaughn hardly has a slim face, but he has successfully worn them to ballast his spacious forehead. You’ll never know if you can carry them off until you try. Sideburns seem to be on the comeback. Maybe because of Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords. He’s going for those long, lean, Neil Young ’burns, trimmed at the bottom and the front. If you ask me, these are best when worn as Neil often did, right down to the jawline.
