Frank Ocean Has a Serious Skincare Regimen, and You Should, Too

"I really do believe in night cream," says Frank Ocean, a man who is supposedly 31 years old but looks like he's only barely legally able to drink.

In between talking about why he made his Instagram public, his current vice (after giving up mezcal cocktails), and how his music-making process has evolved while being interviewed for his GQ February issue cover story, Ocean went deep on his grooming routine. This is a man who knows how to stay looking good.

"I feel like men just go to sleep," Ocean opines. "They may wash their face or they don’t even bother—they go to sleep with the day face on. You really need to do a gentle wash and put a night moisturizer on."

This is grooming gospel. If there's one thing you should do to take care of your skin, it's wash your face before bed. A close second: apply some night moisturizer right after. You can find one of our favorite night creams right here.

"I need the night cream because when I wake up I feel very beautiful, moisturized and ready to have people making eye contact with me, ready to look above my eyebrow, below the eyebrow. [laughs] That’s the life hack right there."

What testimonial could be more persuasive than Frank Ocean telling you that he feels "very beautiful"?

Ocean likes a night cream with retinol, a.k.a. the best over-the-counter wrinkle prevention you can find. But it's potent, so follow Frank's advice: "You can’t have the retinol in your creams in the day because it makes you more sun-sensitive, so you wanna throw that on at night."

Ocean had one self-care lament: "It’s been all these years, and Pharrell still hasn’t given us the keys yet. He just says 'exfoliate,' but it’s not just 'exfoliate': We need more keys."
