LeBron James Is Doing Some Very Weird Stuff in the Gym This Summer

After his team got thoroughly waxed by the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, you might think that LeBron James would take a few weeks off to rest, recover, wallow, and/or send furtive "U up?" texts to Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Chris Paul, and anyone else he daydreams about trading Kevin Love for.

However, LeBron James is not programmed like that. (Well, those texts might be real, actually.) After shaving his head with little fanfare, he was back in the gym just two days after the confetti fell at Oracle Arena, and some of the James Harrison-esque stunts he's trying out this offseason as he prepares for another shot at the Larry O'Brien trophy are a bit outside the realm of what you might see at your local 24 Hour Fitness.

After a bit of diligent sleuthing, I can confirm that he is not, in fact, wrestling with a gigantic windshield wiper. That contraption appears to be a Bodyblade, an undulating rubber baton that purportedly causes the muscles to contract at a cool 270 times per minute. The user controls the intensity of the vibration by giving it a little kick-start and then grimly hanging on for dear life, allowing gravity and inertia to handle the rest. LeBron doesn't just hold the thing in one position, though—he waves it all around his body, sometimes grasping it with one hand and sometimes with two, and at every conceivable angle that the human shoulder can accommodate. Also, all of this is happening while he's balancing on his knees atop an inflatable exercise ball, which is a pretty impressive feat even without adding in a wrinkle in the form of a giant wriggling stick.
