In season one of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Joe Keery’s big, brushed-back pompadour only added to his character Steve Harrington’s total sliminess. “We spent a lot of time discussing what [Steve] should look like so he really rubs people the wrong way,” the show’s hairstylist, Sarah Hindsgaul, told Refinery29 in December. The goal was “to make him look like kind of a douche”, she added.

While Hindsgaul went onto say that many of the Stranger Things actors wear wigs in season two of the show, which is filming now and is set to release later this year, it’s clear Keery isn’t one of them. The 24-year-old actor rolled up to the SAG Awards last night with a pompadour-turned-mullet of epic proportions. Keery has capital-H hair as it is, but the mullet cut really takes his thick, wavy locks to an extraordinarily douche-tastic place. That synth-y laser video Netflix released in August was cool and all, but this mullet was the season two teaser we—the people obsessed with this weird show—really needed.

Just what could this epic amount of wavy hair mean for the next season? What spoilers are hiding under the actor's flipped ducktail 'do? Here's what we think: When fighting the demogorgon, Steve somehow gets infected by its monster-ness and, like an Alien-type baby growing inside of him, his hair becomes the physical manifestation of the beast. It slowly drives the character to the dark side and with a new need to feast on human flesh for survival (just go with it), he is forced to kill his girlfriend Nancy, the kids, Eleven, even Barb (yes, again).

That, or it's 1984 and people had weird hair.
