David Beckham’s Summer Scruff Needs Help
There’s no questioning that David Beckham is a certified grooming god. He’s shown mastery of everything from the buzzcut to the topknot, and in recent years, his hair has served as the platonic ideal for how an undercut should look. And yet, even men like Beckham have moments when they let their guard down, narrowly missing the mark when it comes to maintaining their otherwise impeccably groomed assets. Take, for example, today, when Becks stepped out to watch some tennis at the first round match of Stan Wawrinka and Fernando Verdasco at the Aegon Championships in London.
Okay, so you might be wondering, “What the hell could be wrong with his hair?” And the answer is, well, nothing. Beckham’s mane is on-point, as per usual. Keeping it swept back with the kind of studied nonchalance that only a true master can attain so regularly, the man is the undisputed king of effortless off-duty hair, and this occasion is no different. What we would like to draw your attention to, however, is his beard, which at current seems to be in desperate need of a little TLC.
Here, it’s the Southernmost border of his scruff that you want to be paying attention to, particularly around the corner of the jaw. You see, while Beckham’s beard generally falls towards the less-manicured end of the spectrum—to fine effect, mind you—it’s here that it transitions to straight-up unkempt. By neglecting to trim a soft corner into the point of the jaw, Beckham has allowed the wildness at his neckline to obscure the border of his otherwise perfectly squared-off visage, unbalancing what could have been another winning look ever so slightly.
Now, we’ve spoken before about how important it is to clean up your jawline in time for summer, but it bears repeating. Because just think: If an untidy jawline can make an impossibly handsome man like David Beckham look less-than-ideal, then imagine what it could do to you.
